I have been an educator for almost thirty years, which means I have seen new teachers come and go. Some were never meant to be teachers. Teaching, to them, was supposed to be a cushy job with hours from 8-3 and weekends and summers off. Hello!? I am thankful that it didn't take these people twenty, ten, or even five years to figure out that teaching was not their calling.

THEN, in walks a new teacher! S/he is the real deal and brings an aura, a presence, a passion, a willingness, a direction, and a drive to reach and teach. The first three to five years will make or break this great educator.

It is our responsibility as the lions to help the cubs to mature and become masters! We can help to acclimate them, help them grow, be available when they stumble, encourage and support them, and share our valuable experiences and strategies with them--the positives more than the negatives, please and thank you.

We can champion them to their calling by acknowledging effort and offering words that soothe their souls after a long, tiring, seemingly unappreciated day. When the feeling of insecurity (as a new teacher) about whether or not they did all they could do weighs on their hearts. 

Though student teaching does help, it is not enough. The first-year teacher is hired for a specific position, given his/her own classroom (yay!), and overwhelmed with curriculum and "other assigned duties." They are asked to write lengthy lesson plans for every subject taught each day of the week, to keep student grades updated (which absolutely needs to be done), to sponsor clubs or organizations or classes, to contact parents and explain the reasons for little Johnny's failing class (which terrifies a new teacher), to go to meetings and conferences, to give state and district mandated tests! tests! tests! (so they can fret about their upcoming evaluation--no stress there), and attend an immense amount of professional development on top of it all. 

Lions & Tigers & Bears---for sure! It can be a zoo unless zookeepers show up to teach the teachers about teaching. 

Let us roll up our sleeves and support and encourage these new teachers.
Let us be a path of light when the alley looks long, dim, and dark.
Let us invigorate them when the days are long and tiring.
Let us share simple but effective tools, so as not to overwhelm the newbies anymore than necessary.
Let us remember that once we were first-year teachers.
Let us let give them space to teach with innovative ideas, with vigor and passion.
Let us guide them and teach them survival skills with the rigor a lioness teaches her cubs because she realizes that one day they will be on their own, without her.

If they fall and scratch their knees, so be it. They will walk again. We all learn from our failures, and they will learn skills they need to survive--skills not found in any textbook or on the internet--skills that only experience can offer.

Help them to remember the successes too--they are so very sweet. 

To those novice teachers:

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Teaching! There is no more rewarding profession. Our value is not monetarily based; it is worth much more, which you will come to understand (smiling). Let it be known that after 29.5 years, I would have had it no other way. Know that you will never be "just a teacher" in the young minds that you impress. 

Now, go forth and teach!

But after meeting the other freshman students, you’ll be able to cast aside the stress and explore the enjoyable side of being one of the international students in Malaysia. This article throws light on the simple ways to make your academic life abroad pleasant and fruitful. International Students Studying in Malaysia / PicCredit 1. Pack wisely. Prepare to meet a lot of people. Tons of international students flock to Malaysia each year, providing you a multi-ethnic atmosphere to live in. In 2010, a survey conducted on 199 institutes in Malaysia revealed that 86,923 students in those institutes hailed from Iran, Indonesia, China, Nigeria, Yemen and other countries. When you are tired of dealing with too many project papers, permit yourself for a cool escape to Langkawi’s white sands. You can also sail across the tropical islands in Kota Kinabalu for an unforgettable vacation.       6. Save more.  Living cost is relatively inexpensive compared to countries like USA, Australia and UK. But big cities also offer sky-high luxury and expensive hotels which you should reasonably brush aside considering your college tuition fees and off-campus living costs.       The transport fare, local restaurants, mini markets to malls, Malaysia offers great options for international students. With a $40 dollars-a-month gym subscription and $50 USD transport passes, an international student in Malaysia can enjoy quality living without burning a hole in the pocket. In a regular, low-cost restaurant, $3 USD can bring you 2 square meals. Surfing net would not require more than $20USD a month.   Start to invest. This is mandatory for all university students to allocate at least $15 USD per month as health insurance which includes hospitalisation and medical treatment when necessary. In a nutshell, the money required for basic things as food, clothes and lodgings ranges between $3000 to $4000 dollars. This applies to both on-campus and off-campus living costs which ensures better savings for future. 7. Keep your humour alive and kicking! Laughter doesn’t need a language.  It is the best remedy for any moment of awkwardness. This will also provide a comic relief to your struggle and occasional sense of isolation. Even if a taxi-driver refuses to turn on the meter, don’t argue. Shrug it off with humour and check another one. If wearing shorts be a magnet for a lot of shooting stares, respect local sensibilities and be careful next time. Just a drizzle of light-hearted humour can ward off many stern looks. 8. Tingle Your Taste-buds  Malaysia offers a wide gamut of multi-national delicacies as Malay, Chinese and Indian dishes. An international student in Malaysia shouldn’t miss out on Bakuteh( Simmered Pork-ribs), Hokkien mee( Chinese yellow noodles) and Fresh River Prawns. Even street-side eateries offer light, healthy and delicious options to pick from. If you’re an avid western foodie, McDonalds, KFC, Subway and Burger King can satiate your appetite in major cities. Diverse cultures, luscious landscapes, affordable tuition fees, and lavish food options, an international student in Malaysia truly has reasons to rejoice and say “Terima kasih”! Pantun - Pengenalan

Pantun juga adalah bentuk puisi Melayu yang asli dan unik. Ia merupakan sumber khazanah dalam kehidupan masyarakat di Alam Melayu, baik dari segi pemikiran, kesenian, maupun nilai-nilai moral dan sosialnya. Akalbudi orang Melayu dapat dilihat dalam pantun yang diungkapkan secara spontan dengan begitu ringkas dan padat. Ini termasuklah kebijaksanaan dan ketangkasannya menjana makna yang dalam dan mengukir gerak hati serta lukisan rasa yang indah bersama penampilan unsur-unsur alam.

Pantun adalah genre kesusasteraan tradisional Melayu yangberkembang di seluruh dunia khususnya di Nusantara sejak ratusan tahun lampau. Pantun adalah simbol artistik masyarakat Nusantara dan ia adalah lambang kebijaksanaan berfikir. Pantun sering dijadikan sebagaialat komunikasi. Pantun bersifat ringkas, romantik dan mampu mengetengahkan aspirasi masyarakat dengan lebih jelas. Pantun begitu sinonim dengan pemikiran dan kebudayaan masyarakat nusantara danMalaysia.

Menurut Zaba, pantun itulah kaedah rangkapan yang tertua dan memang asal kepunyaan Melayu betul. Semenjak Orang Melayu belum tahu surat-menyurat dahulupun mereka telah pandai berpantun dan biasa berbalas-balas pantun sesama sendiri.

                Pantun wujud dalam pelbagai bentuk dan wajah, dari pantun dua kerat dan pantun empat kerat sehingga ke pantun berkait. Genre ini menduduki tempat yang penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat Melayu, justeru diungkapkan dalam permainan kanak-kanak, dalam percintaan, upacara peminangan dan perkahwinan, nyanyian, dan upacara adapt. Pendeknya setiap tahap kehidupan manusia Melayu, yakni dari dalam buaian hingga ke alam percintaan dan hari-hari tua, dibantu dan dihiasi oleh pantun.

alhamdulillah....seminggu yang produktif. (23-29 april)

ISNIN : Alhamdulillah, selesai semua urusan peperiksaan PK2. keyin markah dan pembetulan pelajar. yang belum selesai ialah PEMBAHAGIAN HADIAH.
SELASA: Alhamdulillah, walaupun sepatutnya laporan pengarah turun padang dihantar hari ini, tetapi apabila menerima borang PEMBETULAN, maka perubahan drastik terpaksa dilaksanakan....lagu jangan tidur lagi bergema---
RABU: Latihan rumah sukan yang dikendalikan oleh mantan ketua penasihat rumah sukan..... alhamdulillah, memang puas hati. seronok dan menyihatkan.
KHAMIS: Alhamdulillah, siap menghantar laporan pengarah turun padang 1. dan laporan SKPM (dalam masa satu malam)
JUMAAT : mesyuarat agung tahunan koperasi smk convent berhad.Alhamdulillah, pertama kalinnya berjaya menPDFkan  BUKU LAPORAN .


SABTU
Alhamdulillah. sabtu yang produktif:

1. kursus pengendalian mikroskop digital yang menyeronokkan.(jika guru semua teruja, apatah lagi pelajar....)p/s: jika sekolah anda belum beli mikroskop digital, sila lah usulkan kepada pengetua.
2. perjumpaan kokurikulum ke 5 yang berjalan lancar.(terima kasih kepada yang terlibat!)
3. pemantauan baikpulih 25 unit komputer makmal komputer sekolah. (pantau kontraktor, tapi banyak perkara yang saya belajar!)
4. baikpulih 5 unit komputer bilik cyber cafe pelajar (buat sendiri, cuba jaya!)
5. siap menghantar laporan kantin dan denggi bulan April (awal seminggu!)
6. Siap mengira komisyen petugas cyber cafe .
7. selsai mencetak kod-kod baharu cyber cafe untuk kegunaan sekolah dan kampung.

Kisah pelajar pelik

" en hairul, masuk kali ni, dah dua kali kami tangkap *** **** merayap waktu kelas cikgu. kami cadangkan cikgu beri dia kertas, sueuh dia salin dan duduk diam- diam"

Itulah teguran gkmp kepada saya berkaitan seorang pelajar yang saya anggap pelik. Mungkin pelik kerana saya bukan kaunselor untuk maneliti dan memahami kes pelajar ini. Pelajar ini berkelakuan seperri pelajar tadika. Nak kata lemb, tidak, kerana doa mampu menjawap soalan periksa seperto pelajar normal. Cuma jelakuannya , cara cakapny, cara berinteraksi dengan guru, seolah olah pelajar istimewa .

Saya pernah menyelidik latar belakangnya dari rakan rapatnya . Mereka semua mengakui bahawa, diluar, dia seperti pelajar normal biasa. Ibu bapanya pun menafikan anaknya istimewa. Usaha pihal sekolah unuk menghantarny ke sekolah kelas khas juga tidak berjaya dan mwmdapat bantahan.

Pwebezaan kelkuan yang amat ketara ini disedari oleh seluruh waga sekolah. Namun, seperti tidak boleh berbuat apa apa. Walaupn datang ke sekolah, dia hanya duduk dan bemain mengganggu guru dan rakan bukan setakat rakan kelas, malah rakam di kelas lain dan merayap rayap mangganggu pnp.

2mac TAZKIRAH JUMAAT

Alhamdulillah, program membudayakan al qiran yang dilaksanakan setipa pagi jumaat berjalan lancar. Kali ini cikgu ingin berkongsi kisah yang diharap dapat dijadikan pedoman dan iktibar untuk kita bersama.

"Kisah burungku yang sejuk"

Ada seekor burung yang tinggalnya di kawasan yang bergilir musimnya. Lazimnya, apabila tiba musim sejuk, bueung ini bersama kumpulammyayang lain akan berhojrah ke kawasan yang leboh panas untu mencari tempat perlindungan dan makanan. Namun, pada tahun ini. Burung ini bercadang untuk tinggal kekal di tempat asalnya dan enggan mengikut kumpulannya .

Namun setelah beberapa la bersendiriam, burung otu pun kebosanan. Doa ridak dapat bertaham kerana musim sejuk kali ini luar biasa sejuknua. Bekalan makanannya pun tidak menukupi....

Maka burung itupunenukar fikirannya dan ingin teebang berhijrah.... Diaat menyesal kerana tidakengilut kumpulannya berhijrah lebih awal ....

Maka terbanglah burung itu bersendirian dalam cuaca sejuk yang luar biasa itu.....

Apakah yamh akan terjadi kepada burung ini? Nantika minggu hadapan . InsyaAllah.
